Experiencing Boise State University
Our journey to Boise began with a specific purpose: to explore Boise State University for our teenager. After a 14-hour drive from California, we arrived in Boise City, eager to discover what this esteemed institution and its surrounding city had to offer. The campus immediately impressed us with its beautiful red brick buildings and meticulously maintained grounds. A highlight was, of course, the iconic blue turf football field—the only one of its kind in the nation! We loved the intimate feel of the small class sizes, which promised a personalized learning environment. During our tour, we connected with other families from out of state, providing a fantastic opportunity to envision college life in Idaho.
Just beyond the campus, we discovered a stunning bridge spanning the Boise River, a perfect spot for photos. Our tour guide shared that during summer, college students often raft down the river, a testament to Boise’s integration of outdoor recreation into daily life. Where to Stay in Boise City Idaho
While staying with family is always a bonus, if you’re traveling from a distance like we were, you’ll need accommodations that offer more than just a bed. With three kids, finding a place where we can prepare at least one meal a day is essential for saving money and enjoying relaxed evenings. My husband and I seek similar features even when traveling for work, as it truly makes a temporary stay feel more like home.
On our initial visit, we decided to try an Airbnb, having heard wonderful things about vacation rentals, and we wholeheartedly agree! A significant perk when you rent a vacation home is that you often receive a discount upon signing up. For families with more than four people, traditional hotel rooms can feel quite cramped. The condo we found through Airbnb was not only more affordable than a hotel but also offered a full kitchen, multiple bedrooms for privacy, a washer and dryer, and ample space to spread out and relax. This made our extended stay much more comfortable and convenient, allowing us to fully enjoy our Boise experience.
