I’ve always emphasized that “this circus is unlike anything you’ve seen before, and perhaps unlike anything you’ll ever see again.” Their unanimous agreement after the show, expressing a profound desire to see more, perfectly encapsulated the show’s inspiring impact.

Our particular experience with Luzia unfolded at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, a perfect venue for such a grand production.

The Big Top, while impressively large, is designed to ensure an intimate experience for every audience member. No seat feels too far removed from the action. Even those in the very back rows enjoy an unobstructed view, largely because many of the acts are performed at dizzying heights or descend from the apex of the tent. We were seated comfortably in the middle of the audience, and even my youngest daughter had an excellent vantage point. Furthermore, the show extends beyond the stage; performers and captivating characters interact with the audience, creating a truly immersive and engaging environment from the moment you enter.

My goal was to fully immerse myself in the experience, to truly absorb the spirit of the show, the interplay of light and rain, and the raw emotion of the performances without the distraction of a lens. Oftentimes, when I’m focused on capturing the perfect shot, I find myself removed from the present moment of the event.

I didn’t want that to happen, especially as I was sharing this incredible evening with my daughters. The photos you see here are all taken with a cell phone, but I believe they still convey a sense of the wonder and amazement we felt.
