Air Fryer Oatmeal Cookies

Air Fryer Oatmeal Cookies

Our simple air fryer oatmeal cookies are easy to bake and a great way to make small batch a few at a time from scratch. Once you get the hang of this you can make all sorts of other air fryer cookies for desserts later.

Air Fryer Oatmeal Cookies

You don't have to heat up the whole house to make this easy air fryer recipe and it is easier to make small batch cookies at a time this way for a few people too. pop them in to “bake” in a few minutes so they are always fresh and chewy.

Now if you bought a refrigerated roll ready made you would follow our Air Fryer Cookie Dough timing instead which isn't a huge difference. The biggest change with that is there is like no prep other than slicing the dough into equal size pieces. We mean homemade is best but we get it, we don't always have time for that.

You can tweak the recipe below too and basically the timing would work if the same size dollop is added. Like with our Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Banana Cookies we make if we find there are brown naners on our counter that we hate to waste. A great way to add natural sweetness into the mix for sure.

Tips: My Favorite models are the Cosori or making Ninja Foodi recipes with the lid that is attached.

It is best practice to put food into a hot basket. This is how to preheat air fryer first before adding your food so it becomes as crispy as possible. For best results, here's a printable free air fryer cooking time chart here for your fridge.

The interior of the air fryer basket is empty and features a mesh design, solid for cooking your favorite dishes like bang bang shrimp. The edge of the air fryer has a latch mechanism for securing the basket.

Ingredient notes

You want to start with all purpose flour for the base for your dry ingredients, remember to mix all dry together before integrating the wet for a proper texture.

Cinnamon We always love to add in with oats since it is healthy and adds a Fall touch to them too, nutmeg is a good alternative

Baking powder allows it to rise a bit, make sure you check the expiration date or it won't work properly.

Brown sugar will make a deep sweet to these, we haven't tried a sugar free alternative but imagine it would work the same

Add some unsalted butter softened or dairy free alternative works too but we would add a pinch of salt with that one.

  • Vanilla extract or sometimes we will use almond extract instead
  • 1 egg is best added at room temperature
  • 1 c old fashioned oats not instant are used here, same as we use to make cinnamon oatmeal

Crushed, nuts, raisins and/or mini chocolate chips are possible add-ins too. We use a bunch with our Kitchen Sink Cookies Recipe to make them more wow. In the past we made Toaster Oven Cookies which is another way to cook a few at a time. You basically get the same tender inside results with a bit of crisp on the outsides. As far as the mix ins are concerned there are many.

Air Fryer Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Should you use old fashioned or quick oats in oatmeal cookies?

Old Fashioned rolled oats provide a chewier and heartier texture and adds a bit more “bite” to your cookies where you'll also have visible oat flakes in the finished product which is nice. Quick creates a softer texture and blends more seamlessly into the dough appearing smoother and less “oat-y” in texture.

Tips

We talk about how long to bake cookies here. In the Foodi or Cosori is quite quick and you do get a similar result vs. the oven. In the result that you do only want to make a few scoops at a time we will go over how to save the dough to use later below.

Remember that the cook time is an estimate and will vary depending on a few factors. Size, thickness of the dough and preferences whether you want them chewy (less time) or crispy bites will alter how long they are in there. Great thing is you can check them easily by opening the air fryer basket and looking.

Small Batch Oatmeal Cookies

Do you need parchment paper to bake cookies in air fryer?

Yes you want to do this step. Reason why is that if you don't the dough will start to ooze down thru the holes in the bottom of the basket as they bake. cut a small piece or buy precut that covers the holes and set on top to “bake”.

How Long to Bake Chewy Oatmeal Cookies

We like chewy and soft so as soon as the outside edges are cracking and the middle is no longer wet looking. We leave them in the basket for 5 minutes, removed from the machine, then take them out and transfer on to a cooling rack until room temperature.

How to save leftover cookie dough

Before storing the Oatmeal Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies dough, or any other version, make sure it's portioned into individual cookie sized pieces. You can use a cookie scoop, your hands, or a spoon to do this. This step is essential because it makes it easier to bake the number of cookies you want at any given time.

  1. Wrap the individual portions of cookie dough tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. You want to minimize exposure to air to prevent freezer burn and maintain the dough's freshness.
  2. If you're not using the dough immediately, it's a good idea to label each wrapped portion with the type of cookie dough and the date it was prepared. This helps you keep track of how long it's been in the freezer.
  3. Place the wrapped portions of cookie dough into an airtight, freezer-safe container or resealable freezer bags.
    • This extra layer of protection helps prevent freezer odors from affecting the dough.
  4. Put the container or bags in the freezer. Be sure to store them in a flat position to prevent the dough from becoming misshapen as it freezes.
  5. When you're ready to bake cookies, remove the desired number of dough portions from the freezer to defrost and bake.
