My husband on the other hand likes his still mooing so we decrease the time below by 5 minutes. Of course the thicker cut of steak are the less done they will be at the end of all of this. We wouldn't choose anything much larger than your palm, and 1″ thick is ideal. If you are cooking a filet mignon or you want yours closer to medium rare than well you might decide to decrease timing to 10 minutes instead of 15.

For internal temperature the following applies

  1. To get a rare steak the temp would be 115-120 degrees2. A Medium Rare 120-125 degrees3. Medium steak = 130-135 degrees4. Temperature of medium well is 140-145 degrees5. Well Done 150+ degrees

Best way to check this is to remove from whatever heat source you're using. In this case we would take off of the trivet and on to a plate. Insert digital thermometer in the center where the thickest area is and see. At first this will take some tweaking so the next time around you will know what timing is solid for you.

Instant Pot Frozen Steak Time

Everyone is different when it comes to how much pink they want to see inside, and how tender they want it to be. The 15 minutes under high pressure listed below would get a medium thickness cut of meat to medium well in our opinion. We would adjust down a few minutes if you like more pink than what you see at the top here.

Allowing a natural release at the end is vital either way though to keep the juices inside the meat and not pouring out. Look at it like the time your red meat needs to rest before slicing. Then you are ready right when it comes out since it has already gone thru that stage inside the pot.

  • Peel and chop carrots into large chunks. Could half potatoes and add in there too. Slice onions into thick slices. Put all into bottom of pressure cooker.
  • Pour in water and Worcestershire sauce. Put trivet on top and lay frozen steaks on top of that. Sprinkle with dry rub or seasonings of choice.
  • Seal lid and steam valve. cook on high pressure for 15 minutes with a 4 minute natural release, then release rest of steam.

Use tongs to lift meat out, drain the liquid inside the pot, serve with the vegetables and brown gravy over the top. Season with salt and pepper and enjoy. Now to getting a bit of a crisp or sear on the outside, of course you'd get it if you grilled frozen steak but in this case this is how to do it…….

Frozen Steak in Pressure cooker

If you still want that bit of crisp on the outside of your meat after using this method of cooking you can do so air fried. Yep, our steak air fryer recipe here is using defrosted meat but you can also use it right at the end for a bit of texture. We agree that texture is everything when it comes to dinners so we get it.

You will first want to preheat your air fryer to 400 F for 5 minutes, do this while your IP is releasing the steam at the end. Lay your meat inside the basket and re-season a bit now. Close and allow it to air fry for about 2-4 minutes depending on how much browning you want on the outside.

Remember that it will continue to cook the inside more during this process so plan ahead. If you're going to do this final step we might decrease your cook time by 1-2 minutes so it doesn't get overdone for your tastes. You could also throw the veggies in there for a bit of crisp too which is nice.
