We do A LOT of crockpot recipes and although we wanted to show you how to clean a slow cooker too. Doesn't have to be done after each meal but we bet you too have neglected cleaning the inside of your crockpot too. We couldn't stand looking at the gunk on the inside and looked for an easy way to get rid of it using household items we already had. How to clean the metal part of a slow cooker
Like we said, whether it is Winter or Summertime we cook our 5 ingredient crockpot chili recipeor any of our other crockpot recipes pretty regularly.
As you can see, we have never cleaned the inside of this slow cooker or any of our others (yes we have 3 different sizes) ever!!!
We don't know why we thought this was ok year after year but we guess it was one more thing to get done and got neglected. Here is how to clean your crockpot with ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda!
How to Clean your Crockpot
- Paper towel
- Amonia
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Baking soda
Let's take a peek inside this baby shall we….underneath the pot you use people!
We bet yours is as gross if you've never cleaned it before. First take the part you cook in out of your slow cooker and set that aside.
Slow cooker cleaning hack
Fill a small bowl with amonia and put it inside the inside of your crockpot and put the lid on.
Leave it there overnight and let it work! It will look the same when you take the lid off but believe us the grime has loosened.
Now mix together some hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to make a paste and put some on a paper towel. Use it to wipe down the inside.
It doesn't take much scrubbing but the mixture has some grit to it so it gets off all the yuck inside. Then get a clean paper towel that is wet and wipe clean the inside!
How to deodorize a slow cooker
If you've ever tried to do a dry run and not do what we're suggesting to get the grit and yuck off the inside of your crockpot you know that is stuck on good!!
- It has probably been gross for years and years and baked on in between the crock that is hot and becomes almost impossible to get the dirt and baked on food off.
- This way to clean your crockpot it takes a few swipes of your “gritty mixture” to wipe off.
Then use a damp paper towel to wipe the yuck off and it looks fantastic when you're done….see!
