You can use any brand of electric pressure cooker you might have at home. They all basically work the same and cut your cooking time down by a lot. We have all three brands at our house because many times we will cook meat in one, veggies in another and maybe rice or potatoes in another. Occasionally we can bundle a few together like we did when making Instant Pot steamed vegetables but you have to choose like kinds so they cook at the same rate.

Ok now let's get started…. First, you're going to wash them. All produce picked right out of the fields, or store bought should be rinsed well to remove debris. Then cut off the ends, they don't taste good. To make eating them easier, most recipes call for you to slice them in half. We follow this method to make our Instant Pot green bean casserole too.

It took a while to get our girls loving things that were green or came out of the ground but now they love vegetables. Actually every single one would choose those over beef or chicken any day of the week.

Ingredient notes

You are going to want to start off with a large batch of Fresh green beans trimmed with the ends cut off and discarded.

  1. Salt and pepper to tase, or other seasonings
  2. Onion diced for flavor
  3. Vegetable broth for liquid we use

Can you add meat?

Yes, many times we will add diced up slices of bacon sauteed first. After the holidays we will add bits of leftover ham which is wonderful too. You can always add more seasonings, but remember that this one includes bacon which can be salty as is.

How long do you pressure cook green beans?

Not long on high pressure at all!! Cook time will depend slightly on how soft you like them. We don't like them as soft as if we were to open a can of them so 2 minutes is solid for us. We are using fresh green beans too which is ideal, frozen isn't right if you ask us.

Steaming like we do here essentially is better than boiling because it prevents the beans from overcooking. It also preserves the vibrant green color, and maintains the vitamins within.

Tips

Never fill your inner pot of your pressure cooker more than 1/2 full when cooking beans. If you choose to saute bacon or other bits of meat to precook you will want to then add broth and deglaze pot at this time to remove stuck on bits of food if present. If this is skipped it may trigger the burn notice on the pot which will cause it to stop entirely.
