Sweet Sriracha Baked Chicken Wings

We. Love. Wings! Ok, so our whole family does and it's a great appetizer to serve when people come over. They're so hard to resist! Try these sweet Sriracha wings in oven and let us know what you think.

in the Oven

We know, good right??!! They are easy to do too. There are two steps to this process. Making the sweet and spicy Sriracha sauce with sweetener, and baking chicken wings in the oven. You can mix up the sauce while they're in the oven.

We will start with how you can cook them crispy first a few different ways. In the oven you will need a baking sheet, tinfoil, a rack (to keep the wings off the pan), baking powder and salt. We know, sounds different but follow us here.

in Air Fryer

If you are more obsessed with using a countertop appliance you can make them into a sort of version of our air fryer chicken wings. If you don't have this appliance, you can bake them in the oven instead. Both great, both come out spicy and the solid Game day appetizer.

Sriracha Chicken Wings

The nice thing about these sweet and spicy chicken wings at 375 is you can adjust the sweetness and heat to your liking! The recipe we included above is solid for us but if you want it a bit sweeter add a bit more Stevia or honey. Be gentle when adding more Sriracha it can kick up some serious HEAT! You can use Tbsps. of sugar or 1 packet (or 2 if you want it sweeter) for your sauce.

How do you get sauce to stick to chicken wings in the oven?

If you want to add some during the cooking process, the last 10 minutes is recommended and it isn't sticking you can; remove the pan and wad a few paper towels up to blot the top, then brush on the sauce. You can drizzle it on the top using a squeeze bottle.

Same thing goes for saucing air fryer boneless wings in the process. Now if you want to eliminate the bones, this is a great option for sure.

sweet sriracha sauce

Ingredient notes

Sriracha hot sauce is what we start with. Now this is quite hot so you will want to test along the way as you do to make sriracha mayo and adjust to your family's liking.

MayonnaiseBest Foods is best, will make this a bit creamy. You could use Miracle Whip and skip the vinegar below since this brand already has some in there. Plain Greek yogurt would be a substitute for this.

White wine vinegar in the sauce will provide a zing to it, add more to thin and make it more potent or less to tame down and keep thick.

We added some Sugar or sugar-free sweetener works too in this case to balance out the heat and give it a salty sweet taste to it.

As for seasonings we went with a bit of Garlic Salt and Paprika with a squeeze of fresh lime juice is nice at the end.

With Frozen Chicken Wings

Fresh is what is described here but you could use our Frozen chicken wings air fryer instructions instead. If yours aren't fresh, follow this post on how to bake frozen chicken wings recipe for timing too

Sriracha Wings Sauce

  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp garlic salt

  • 1-2 packets stevia, or 1/2 – 1 tsp. sugar depending on how sweet you want it – optional

Instructions

  • Rinse wings and place on paper towel. Pat dry to remove water on the skin.

  • Line coated wings on rack and place on low rack in oven for 30 minutes at 250 degrees.

  • For the sauce mix your mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce, vinegar, garlic salt, and paprika together.
  • Add 1 packet of SweetLeaf Stevia Sweetener (1/2 tsp. if you use their Sweetener Shaker), taste, if you want it a bit sweeter add 1 more packet or 1/2 tsp. additional Sweetener. Toss sauce and wings in a bowl or brush on, serve!

Do we sauce chicken wings before or after we bake them?

Here are a few tips: To make them extra crispy you do NOT want them to be directly on your cookie sheet. A cooling rack is important to elevate them a bit so the hot air can circulate all the way around every inch and do not add sauce at the beginning! You want the skin to crisp up at least some before adding it, or wait until the end.

Tips

Reason to add some sauce near the end of the cooking time would be to caramelize it a bit, if there is sugar in there. If you want them to be sticky sweet, brush some on the last 10 minutes. If we want less prep work we toss when done with these.

Drying them off is important as well after you've rinsed them. Then you're going to shake them up in a bag with a mixture of baking powder and salt to keep them dry in the oven. THIS is how to create that ultra crispy texture.

These turn out almost as crispy as our Instant Pot air fryer chicken wings do. If you don't have one of these countertop appliances this is second best, on a baking sheet. Looking to cook a side dish at the same time, use another baking sheet to make baked cabbage steaks to serve with these.

Here's how you make these hot wings in air fryer or baking in the oven is above. You can add a bit of sweetener to one down the heat or leave as is. Try our lemon pepper chicken wings style too.

How can you make sriracha wings less spicy?

If you made this sauce homemade or got takeout from Buffalo Wild Wings and they are too hot for you, you could drizzle on some honey. To tame down the heat, dunk into Ranch dressing before biting into each one.
